My work explores explores gesture, color, and rhythm. You can put those in any order you like depending on what catches your eye first.
In my most recent work, these elements are expressed in entirely abstract compositions.
The previous series incorporates images and representational elements.
Despite the quite different compositions that result, the actual painting process is very much
the same: i employ multiple, single-pigment glazes (some very transparent, some more opaque)
to mix color on a board or canvas, rather than on the palette.
This is partly a result of my initial works in watercolor,
and partly a deep affinity for luminosity and accretion.
Neon at night, walls with layers of rust, decay, graffiti, or mismatched paint—I am fascinated by color fields, each compelling in different ways for different reasons.

And, yes, this is a very self-serious selfie.
